Principal’s News – 15 March 2024

Congratulations to all students recognised at the Student Leadership Assembly today. We acknowledged the many forms of student leadership this year, including year level Identity, Arts and Sports Captains, Duggan House leaders and House Vice Captains. These students were awarded badges which they are encouraged to wear with pride on their blazers this year. We also awarded the Man of Camp medals, presented to those students who best displayed Rostrevor’s values of mateship, leadership and teamwork at this year’s Year 7 and 8 camps.

Year 10 Reflection Day

In conjunction with the Stepping Up Day, Year 10 students spent one day last week with the Religious Education team exploring who they want to be. Based on the Parable of the Good Samaritan, students spent time getting to know each other, reflecting on their values and what it means to be a good neighbour. The day started with a beach walk and finished with Christian meditation.

Clean Up Rostrevor Day

Middle and Senior Years students took part in a ‘Clean Up Rostrevor’ initiative on Friday last week, run in conjunction with ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ which took place the previous Sunday. We are very fortunate that the College is situated on such expansive and beautiful grounds. This is a luxury which is easy to take for granted, so involvement in the maintenance process was a fantastic way for students to be reminded about the importance of caring for their environment. Showing respect for the environment by minimising food packaging and ensuring that all rubbish makes its way into a bin is an important part of the education process.

Animals Anonymous at the Junior School

Reception to Year 2 students were treated to a visit from Animals Anonymous today, who brought along a range of native animals for Rostrevor’s youngest students to see and touch. The visit was a fun way to complement students’ learning about new animals and investigating their unique features as part of the Science curriculum this year.

The gloomy weather couldn’t dampen the electric atmosphere at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre yesterday as Rostrevor’s Middle and Senior Years students gave it their all at the annual Swimming Carnival.

Congratulations to Barron for taking out the Middle Years trophy, Murphy for winning the Senior Years trophy and O’Brien for earning the coveted Spirit Shield. This year, there was a tie for the Br Bourke Trophy for the overall champion House, with Egan and Murphy finishing equal first! Well done to Year 12 Tom Braunack who claimed the 100m Invitational Freestyle Champion trophy for the third year in a row. The Prefect relay team also managed to keep an impressive pace this year, just managing to beat the staff team!

Year 9 student Archah Parisi was named as the second-highest run scorer in the competition with 315 runs. I wish them beth the best of luck as they play in the First XI Grand Final tomorrow.

Adelaide 36ers Program

This week the Rostrevor College Year 4/5 Basketballers were lucky enough to be joined by the Adelaide 36ers Basketball Operations Manager and seasoned coach, Michael Kfoury who helped run one of our regular skill sessions. As part of Rostrevor’s ongoing partnership program with the club, Michael lent his expertise to enhance our training session. It was a great opportunity for the boys to be exposed to some new ideas and drills, learn new skills and have fun in a safe and inclusive environment. These sessions will continue to run over the next few weeks within our Junior Years Basketball program.
